The Mystery Planes

Here is a listing of the Aircraft that may or may not have been assigned to the 447th BG. Most of the pages listed below are based on photographs found in the 447th BG archives, but with no tie to an actual aircraft number.

For example, in rare instances our planes landed at different bases, and the reverse is true as well. And that certainly would have been a noteworthy moment for a base photographer. Those 8×10 photographs get stored and 80 years later no one realizes that the nose art of a plane at Rattlesden was actually from a plane from somewhere else. There were visitors. Planes get reassigned. Lots of opportunity for things to get confusing.
